Pro-Life or Pro-Choice that is the question. Further this is a question that has resulted in much controversy, debate, and arguments. This is one of the most heated ethical, philosophical, and theological debates of the day. So how do we answer this question and how do we respond to this question? With this debate questions of euthanasia or assisted suicide have many of the same arguments.
One of the central questions that is argued and asked is when does life begin. Does it begin at conception or does it begin at birth or does it begin somewhere along the 9 months of pregnancy? Articles upon articles have been written about this question and judicial court battles have raged for decades about this question. Each ‘side’ parade their experts with their opinions, yet I argue that this isn’t the central question. The central question is Life or Choice.
To argue around and around about the question of when life begins is to simply justify one’s position and to make one feel better about their position. For instance, if that ‘embryo’ is not a life then we are justified to dispel of that ‘embryo’. We have justified our position by saying since it is not a life it does not matter if it is destroyed or not, besides it is just an embryo and not a living, breathing, rational person. We also make ourselves feel better by calling ‘it’ an embryo and not a life. If we were to destroy an innocent and helpless life that would make us a monster on the scale of cold-blooded killer or worse.
So the question is Life or the Choice of Life.
On Sunday I will continue this discussion.
What do you think? Is the question of when life begins a legitimate question or just a way to rationalize? If you think it is a legitimate question when do you think life begins?

I am biased, but there should be no choice as to whether killing is right or wrong. Without conception, there is no life. So, life must begin there. After that, seems pretty simple, made complicated by all those wishing to have a legal option for what amounts to murder, and keep thier concious clear so thier life is easier. I argue that there are plenty of willing parents that are not able to conceive that would adopt. I tend to see more black and white than shades of gray, admittedly. It makes it much easier to stay true to your beliefs and keep you from blowing in the wind with your thoughts and actions. I have always been intriqued by those who thought abortion was in some way justified. But, I have never seen a convincing argument to support it. Just my two cents. Great Blog Keith, keep it up
Life begins at CONCEPTION! That is a FACT, not an opinion or “choice”! Another FACT is that when two people make the CHOICE to CAUSE conception…they need to accept the consequences of their choice!
Life definitely begins at conception. When I went with Stan and Kristin when she was only what we thought as 4 weeks, the ultrasound revealed that she was only 2 weeks. We could hear a strong heartbeat, thump, thump, thump and on it went. How can one deny existance of a true heartbeat! Would you be alive if your heart was beating. Of course!
Life exist at conception. I have no doubt. When Kristin first knew she was pregnant we had a doctor appt, we thought she was 4 weeks when in fact the ultrasound revealed she was closer to 2 week. The baby’s heartbeat was as vivid as yours or mine. How can anyone say it’s not living with a heartbeat of 145+ beats a minute. If your heart is still beating – there is no doubt you are alive! I see no debate of what is alive or what is not. As with most things, “people” make the justification based on their needs not on the unborn child. That’s my opinion.
